From the 16th century, the city scales operated here – one of the most important trading points of the port city at that time, where goods brought to the port of Klaipėda were weighed and city taxes were collected. Later, the historic "Salamander" building rose on this site, becoming one of the architectural highlights of the Dangė embankment.

After the Second World War, the building was destroyed, and this site remained empty for more than seven decades. On the initiative of UAB "V. Paulius & Associates", the historic development has been restored – the lost fragment of the Dangė embankment was returned to the city, creating a new dialogue between architecture and historical heritage.
